Hasta la Vista Durango

Dang, it’s been a month and we have to leave Durango. We wondered what on earth we were going to do for an entire month in one place but time flew, in part because of the fabulous friends we made. Jim and Cindi invited us to lunches, dinners, Bible studies and pickleball. We also had two wonderful meals with Ed and Deanne, whom Craig has known for nearly 15 years. Everyone made us feel so welcomed.

We took several hikes just minutes from downtown Durango and were blown away by such beauty in close proximity.

At 2am one night, Craig crept out to look at the stars (which filled the sky to the horizon) and heard a slightly terrifying sound moving towards him. Since dangerous wildlife visit town on a regular basis, he scooted back into the bus. When I heard the piercing screech the next night, Google helped me identify it. Take a listen.

Team Joy Girl has voted the Durango Hot Springs the #1 hot springs in Colorado! Newly renovated, this place has 30+ tubs to explore (with an adult only section), a lovely swimming pool, bar, food truck, massages, and they’re building a hotel so you can soak yourself into oblivion. All with spectacular views of the Hermosa cliffs.

We ate some good grub at the Bar D Chuckwagon and enjoyed the cowboy tunes sung by the Wranglers. Great four part harmony, pickin’, and even a yodeler.

Coming up: Craig will give you the low down on our train rides 🚂🚂

You should be the Tourism Commissioner for Durango. Great narrative and pictures. Will look forward to have you back in Ft Collins for a little while before you head out again.
